WEdding of Paul & Nya, September 20, 2008

Thanks to Michael, Loren, Dylan, Steve and the Little Church of the West for the great photos! Thank you to all of you for going all the way to Las Vegas to participate in the brief, but nevertheless very important moment. It meant a lot to us that we didn't have to stand there by ourselves.

Paul and I had company on our long drive to Las Vegas, Friday morning. Cathryn and Dylan joined us. Steve was going to meet us in Las Vegas the Friday night we planned to arrive.

The Minister

Before the minister in the pretty chapel.

In between catching his breath, the minister actually said something that had meaning to us. For a moment, I was genuinely moved, though there wasn't much time as the whole thing lasted no more than 7 minutes.

Las Vegas

After the ceremony on Las Vegas Boulevard, Paul's family went back to LA and the rest of us went to Cesaer's Palace, one of many great casino 'malls' that Las Vegas offers, to get some dinner. It was quite a fascinating walk through a bunch of different places. Las Vegas really knows how to put on a show with its interior decorations! You have all the themes here, Greek and Egyptian mythology/architecture, New York, Medieval castle, Paris, etc.

Paul taking a well deserved break!
Las Vegas is a very strange place. It is like a grand amusement park with all of its blinking lights and gimmicks, trying to allure you, catch your attention, with a promise of something better than what is. And the neon lights and signs were everywhere we went. Paul and I chose this place to get married, because it seemed convenient for everybody. It was a a way for us to have company on our great day. Paul's family had the opportunity to drive out to meet with us.

HoneyMoon in Cozumel

September 24 to 28, 2008
The Occidental Grand Hotel and resort I had found booked us for in Cozumel turned out to be a grand place. Everything was so beautiful and aesthetic. The service was great too. We got an upgrade because we were honeymooners. I loved the place and the relaxation. The worst part of the stay was that the second day of our stay it started raining and kept going most of our stay. We got a little bit of overcast and then mostly rain. And here I thought I was going to get some tanning time down! We got to go swimming every day in the nice warm water. We even got to play a little bit of tennis in a drizzle rain. There was no line at the tennis court. It was still fun to play again. As we spent some of the time couped up in our beautiful resort room, we got to watch the world news on American economy. Not especially encouraging for our new life in Colorado.
But I enjoyed this small Mexican island. Much more civilized than Egypt and India, and people spoke better English. Next time, I go to Mexico I hope the weather is better.

Dinner at the resort restaurant

Resort Beach

We rented a jeep for the day and drove around the island. Cozumel isn't a big island so it didn't take long to cover the ground. The Jeep looks nicer than it actually was.

This sculpture was the closest we got to the Mayan culture, as a swarm of jungle mosquitoes attacked us on the way to some Mayan ruins, which totally discouraged us from pursuing the adventure any further.

Cozumel town; they had cars too.

Cozumel town; quaint isn't it? This wasn't the norm.

Singing in the Cozumel rain...

Nice location

Look at the cute rainwater frogs!

Our room was on the first floor of this building.
